Great Western Photographic Exhibition5SELECTORSSELECTORS: PDI - Open Mono, PDI - Nature, Print - NatureL to R: Richard Kay FRPS, Sandie Cox ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP/b, Eddie Lane ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP, APAGBRichard Kay FRPSIt was a privilege to be asked to judge the nature entries at the first GWPE, and my thanks go to my colleague judges for being so welcoming. The entries to the Nature prints and projected image sections were wide ranging and many were of an excellent quality, particularly the prints. It was great to see such a wide range of subjects covered and the evident use of great fieldcraft skills in many cases. Although the judges were able to agree on the winners without much difficulty, it was a challenge to make a final selection of the acceptances from so many quality images. My thanks to Steve and his team, who made this first GWPE such a success.Sandie Cox ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP/bA very well managed event especially as this was the first time the Great Western Exhibition has been held and congratulations must go to the organisers and those club members who helped over the weekend, without whom the days would not have run as smoothly. There was a pleasing number of entries with the standard of the nature prints being very high with consistent scoring from all three judges. Unfortunately there was a noticeable lack of botanical images. In the mono section there was a wide range of genres which was very good to see as this makes for a very balanced selection.Eddie Lane ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP, APAGBIt was a pleasure judging the GWPE and being the very first to be held, entrants could choose to submit any images from their entire body of work. This resulted in some entries of a high standard in all categories, and particularly the Nature Prints. There was very good agreement between all three judges throughout the selection process and the allocation of Awards. I was pleased with the final results and awards going to a wide range of entrants %u2013 all in all, the organisers should be proud of their first BPE, long may it continue.
