Great Western Photographic Exhibition4SELECTORSPeter Young LRPS, CPAGB, AFIAP, HonPAGBThe selection weekend was well organised and the company and hospitality were excellent. The Bristol PS members were working like a well-oiled machine and they made it a pleasure to be among them. We saw some excellent photographs. The colour PDI entrants would do well to ensure that their files have not been over-processed and to view their work projected, not just on a monitor. However, many colour prints were paler than I would have liked. There were some good pictures in the mono print section that had just not been well printed. The late, great Bill Wisden used to talk about printing with conviction and we saw a lot of prints that were very wan. However, the prints and PDIs that we accepted will make a very good exhibition.Mike Hall This was my first experience judging a salon along with other experienced judges. The whole process was very enjoyable and well managed, and the two days passed quickly. The standard of entry that we were asked to judge was good and I participated in both colour and mono sections covering DPI and print entries. It was a bonus to benefit from the support of my fellow judges and their comments and exchange were especially appreciated. We seemed to be well matched so that the final selection of medals and awards went smoothly and in very good agreementAleks Gjika DPAGB, EFIAPI was very honoured to have been invited to judge the Great Western Photographic Exhibition. This was a very special occasion for me for many reasons, firstly because this my first BPE salon I have been judging at, secondly this was also the first BPE salon organised by the Bristol Photographic Society and finally I got to work next to reputable photographers and esteemed judges such as Peter Young and Mike Hall.
